Rainbow at U+1F308 was added in Unicode 6.0 as a weather emoji. It is now more often an LGBTQ+ identity marker than a meteorological one, following the pride flag's use of the same imagery.

The dedicated Rainbow Flag emoji, a sequence combining the white flag with the rainbow, was added later specifically so the two uses could be distinguished.
