Discord Banner Maker
Discord profile and server banners use a 16:9 frame, and the recommended size is 960x540 pixels. This maker renders your banner on a canvas at exactly that size: pick a gradient preset or drop in your own background image, add a title and subtitle, and download a ready-to-upload PNG. Everything happens in your browser, so your image never leaves your device.

About this tool
Discord banners are 16:9. The recommended upload is 960x540 pixels, which is what this maker exports; Discord accepts smaller files but they look soft on large displays.
Gradient presets, an optional uploaded background, a title and a subtitle are rendered on canvas and exported as a PNG.
How to use
Choose a gradient or upload your own background image.
Add a title and subtitle and check the live preview.
Download the 960x540 PNG and upload it to Discord.
Two different banners with different requirements
Discord has a profile banner and a server banner, and they are unrelated. The profile banner sits at the top of your user popout and is a Nitro feature. The server banner appears above the channel list and unlocks at Server Boost Level 2.
Profile banners display at a 16:9-ish ratio and are cropped from whatever you upload, with the avatar overlapping the lower-left corner. Anything you place there will be hidden behind the avatar, so keep the left portion of the design empty or unimportant.
Server banners are wider and shorter and are cropped hard on narrow windows, so the safe area is the horizontal centre. Text near the left or right edge disappears for anyone with a collapsed sidebar or a small screen.
Designing against the crop
Both banners are cropped rather than letterboxed, which means the aspect ratio of your source matters more than its resolution. Upload something the wrong shape and Discord will centre-crop it, cutting whatever was at the top and bottom.
Because banners sit behind and around other interface elements, high-contrast busy artwork tends to fight with the text drawn over it. Designs that work are usually low-contrast or have a clear quiet region where the interface sits.
Banner design tips
Keep the message to a few words. Banners are shown small in the profile popout, so a server name plus a short line is all that stays legible.
Dark backgrounds with light text read best because Discord's default theme is dark. If you upload a photo, the tool adds a subtle dark overlay so text stays readable.
Frequently asked questions
What is the correct Discord banner size?
960x540 pixels (16:9) for profile and server banners. Discord will scale other 16:9 sizes, but 960x540 is the sweet spot.
Do I need Nitro for a profile banner?
A custom profile banner requires Nitro. Server banners require Boost level 2. The exported PNG works for both once you are eligible.
Will text get cut off?
Discord crops banners slightly at some window sizes, so this tool keeps the text centred and away from the edges.
