About this tool
A welcome message is the first thing new members see. A warm, clear message with a rules mention helps them settle in.
Three templates (warm, simple, community) customizable with your server name and rules channel.
How to use
Fill in your server name and preferences.

Copy the finished welcome message into your server.
What a welcome message is for
The measurable purpose of a welcome message is getting a new member to their first action - reading the rules, picking a role, posting an introduction. A message that only says hello achieves nothing, because there is no next step in it.
The most effective ones name one action and link it directly, using a channel mention so it is one click. Listing five things a newcomer should do reliably produces none of them.
Volume matters too. On a busy server a welcome message per join pushes conversation off screen, which is why many servers route them to a dedicated channel or batch them. Discord's built-in system message is per-join and cannot be batched, so high-traffic servers usually disable it and use a bot.
Variables and what bots substitute
Most welcome bots support placeholders for the member mention, the plain username, the server name and the current member count. A mention pings the new member, which is usually wanted; a plain username does not, which is better for a public log channel.
Member count in a welcome message is a small but real retention signal on growing servers, and an awkward one on shrinking ones. It is worth deciding deliberately rather than leaving it in because the template had it.
Elements of a great welcome message
A clear greeting, a short server description, a pointer to rules, and an invitation to chat. Keeping it under 600 characters keeps it readable on mobile.
Frequently asked questions
Can I use {user} in the template?
Yes. Most bots automatically replace {user} with a mention. Check your bot's docs for the exact placeholder.
