Discord Divider Maker

A divider is an ordinary channel or category whose name is made of symbols. Discord provides no separator feature, so servers fake one by creating a channel nobody can post in and giving it a name like a row of bars or box-drawing characters.

Because it is a real channel it occupies a slot against the 500-channel server limit, and it appears in the channel list for anyone who can view it. Most servers deny Send Messages for @everyone on dividers so they cannot be posted in, and deny View Channel selectively so dividers only appear to the roles that should see that section.

Category names are usually the better choice for structure, since categories collapse and already group channels. Divider channels are for visual separation inside a category, or for servers that want a heavier break than a category provides.

Channel names are lowercased automatically, and spaces become hyphens. Symbols and box-drawing characters pass through untouched, which is why they dominate divider designs.

The limit is 100 characters, but the practical limit is much lower: the sidebar is narrow and truncates, so a long divider is cut off mid-pattern. Designs of around 15 to 20 characters display fully at most sidebar widths.

Unicode in channel names carries the usual accessibility cost. A divider made of box-drawing characters is announced as a stream of symbol names by a screen reader, so it is worth keeping any divider that conveys meaning readable in plain text as well.

Bios with multiple sections benefit from visual breaks. Channel topics with rules are easier to scan when separated. Even embed footers use short divider lines.
