About this tool

Custom emoji are ordinary CDN images

Every custom emoji has a snowflake ID and lives at `https://cdn.discordapp.com/emojis/{emoji_id}.png`, or `.gif` when animated. Nothing about that URL is authenticated, so an emoji you can see is an emoji you can save.

The ID is visible in the raw message text. Typing an emoji with a backslash before it - `\:name:` - posts the underlying `<:name:1234567890>` form instead of rendering it, which is the simplest way to read the ID without developer tools.

Adding `?size=` works here as it does elsewhere on the CDN, though emoji are stored at modest resolution and requesting a large size mostly upscales.

Reusing emoji from other servers

Downloading an emoji and uploading it to your own server is technically trivial and legally the same as reusing any other image: the artwork belongs to whoever made it. Emoji based on characters, logos or another artist's work carry the same copyright as the original, and "it was in a Discord server" is not a licence.

For a server's own artwork, having a local copy is straightforward insurance - emoji are lost if a server is deleted or a boost level drops and slots are reduced.
